Visual Routing with HERE Maps
Visual Routing with HERE Maps Integration
There are many ways to use the Routing Manager and in different orders of operation. Our field use and feedback have yielded some best practices that we are going to use one such order of steps to follow to accomplish the goal of routing. Feel free to use IDLS as it suits your needs and role--most users get into a groove after a few sessions. Also, give us some feedback on your best practices that we may include in a future update of the help file or in an FAQ section.
With HERE Maps integration, users visually group stops that are close together or along a roadway into "Doors" that are designed to represent a physical door in the warehouse/pickup location where the items for delivery are located.
Once the stops/orders are grouped together into Doors, users can focus on fine tuning each "route" as grouped by "Door". Routing Manager has a built-in optimization tool to order your stops for the least amount of miles, but can then be manually adjusted, too.
Now that you have the order of the stops how you want it, let's move onto timing the stops. IDLS has built-in averages that can be used in place of adjusting the amount of time at each stop. These "defaults" include, but are not limited to, average per stop (for example, 30 minutes), number of minutes per piece (1 minute per piece), and number of minutes per client (20 minutes for each Mattress Brand stop). You can override these, too. Typical use cases include exchanges or certain types of merchandise that takes much longer to complete, like bunkbeds or sectionals.
